The daughter of a former Mayor of Burnley celebrated her 90th birthday on Monday 13 June surrounded by her loving family with a London bash worthy of the Queen herself.

While Doreen Stanworth’s father, Ronald Bushby, was Mayor of Burnley in 1946/47, the nonagenarian herself worked as a magistrate in the town until her retirement in 1996, living on Dugdale Road in Burnley for over 50 years with her husband Alan, who was a labour councillor.

When Alan passed away in 2011, her three children - Christine, Gary and Paul - organised Doreen’s move into a home in London last year so she could be closer to them and her grandchildren, and she has taken to life down south, enjoying a range of hobbies including gardening.

Doreen had a party at her new home, complete with cake, music and balloons, while her children took her out for a family lunch in Twickenham along with their partners and her grandchildren Greg, James and Georgia.

All three of her children attended Burnley High School and Burnley Grammar School, with the whole family attending Ightenhill Methodist Church on Padiham Road.
