It is not known what caused the grass to ignite but dry ground and breezy conditions helped the spread of the flames.
With dry, warm weather forecast to continue this week, Crew Manager Alan Ashworth from Burnley Fire Station has issued a reminder to members of the public to take extra care, especially when disposing of cigarette butts.

“But I would like to take the opportunity to just remind people to be careful during this dry spell when discarding things like used cigarettes.”
