Pendle Council has voted to close Brierfield’s town hall and community centre in the latest round of spending cuts. Along with closing Trawden Comunity Centre, the council will make savings of £70,000. Residents there are to take over the running of their centre – and now Brierfield Town Council has called a meeting at the community centre at 6pm on Wednesday to discuss the future of both buildings.

The Mayor of Brierfield, Coun. Qamar Shazad said: “The town hall and community centre are two iconic buildings at the heart of our town. I would urge anyone interested in helping to save our buildings to attend the meeting.”

Reedley ward borough councillor and Brierfield town councillor Mohammed Hanif said: “it is a fact the cuts imposed on Pendle Council by the Tory government are forcing closures of community buildings. The town council won’t abandon Brierfield unlike the Tory councillors and government.”
