Fiancée’s plea for answers after death crash

Rebecca Gregory’s life was turned upside down when Brett Hames (24) was killed in a motorcycle accident in Sutton-in-Craven, in December.

And now the Trawden resident, who had been living with her husband-to-be in Foulridge, is hoping somebody will help in giving her and Brett’s family the resolution they need.

She has launched a Facebook page called “Justice for Brett Hames” and has been placing posters in Yorkshire, Colne and Trawden in a bid to find the driver of another vehicle possibly involved in the incident.

Rebecca believes Brett was forced off the road, and that the driver then fled the scene.

The 22-year-old said: “Brett didn’t collide with another vehicle. It has come to light that Brett had spoken at the scene before he was airlifted, and he has said he had to swerve to avoid another vehicle - so we now know there was possibly another vehicle around at that time.

“It is not fair on us that there are no answers and Brett does not deserve this injustice.

“The response since launching the campaign has been phenomenal, and this has been the best way to keep myself busy, by doing something for Brett.”

Rebecca’s campaign has earned the full support of Brett’s family and her Facebook page is already being followed by hundreds of supporters.

Rebecca and Brett had been together for seven years, having met for the first time in Victoria Park, in Haslingden.

The former Haslingden High School students got engaged three years ago, and just before the horror crash they had begun their plans for the big day.

Rebecca, who grew up in Rossendale added: “We hardly spent a day apart, and it really was the most perfect relationship. I was very very lucky.”

Brett, who had been working as an apprentice property engineer for a firm in Keighley, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary following the incident, where he died from his injuries.

Police want to speak to any drivers or witnesses who saw a motorcycle or another vehicle travelling in Pole Road at around 2pm on December 5th.

Traffic Constable Dave Seavers said: “A number of drivers have come forward who arrived at the scene after the collision.

“I urge anyone who has not yet come forward but has information that could help us, to please contact us. Brett’s loved ones deserve to know how he lost his life.”

A man, who was driving a black Vauxhall Vectra, was initially arrested as part of the enquiry, but is no longer a suspect. He has co-operated fully throughout the investigation as a witness.
