Farmer dies after becoming trapped under tractor

A farmer from Fence has died after it is thought he became trapped underneath a tractor.

Seventy-eight-year-old James Tatham died on Wednesday at Sunnyside Farm after police were called out at approximately 6pm.

Paramedics also attended the scene but Mr Tatham was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for Lancashire police said the death was not being treated as suspicious and added: “At 6pm on Wednesday we were called out to Sunnyside Farm in Noggarth Road to reports that a 78-year-old man was trapped underneath a tractor.

“Unfortunately he was pronounced dead at the scene and a file has now been passed to the coroner.”

The Health and Safety Executive has also been informed. A spokesman for the HSE said: “HSE is aware of the incident and is investigating what happened.”
