Ex Calderstones chairman takes up hospice role

The new chair of trustees at The East Lancashire Hospice is a former Chair at Calderstones who managed the role for eight years.

Mr Graham Parr JP has been a trustee for over four years and has been part of the hospice story since before its conception. His appointment comes after ex-chairman Audrey Platt stepped down last month.

Relishing his new role, Mr Parr said: “My first involvement with East Lancashire Hospice came when I was Estates Director in the NHS and hospice founder, Dr Seigleman, called into my office.

“He explained his vision for a hospice in Blackburn to serve the people of East Lancashire. My role was to lead the development and design team to build the original 10-bed inpatient unit on the site of the former Park Lee Hospital.

“I took early retirement in 2000 and I’m currently an associate of Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust and Calderstones Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and a Governor of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

“To be appointed as Chairman of the Board of Trustees is a great honour and privilege. I look forward to leading a team of dedicated hard working trustees all with principle objective of providing the very best care to people who require the very special services that the hospice provides.”

Audrey Platt said: “I was invited to become a trustee at the hospice in 1999 after I retired from working as a consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology for over 20 years. It has been a privilege to be associated with the hospice for the last 15 years and I know the hospice will be well served by their new chairman Graham Parr and I wish him well.”
