"Everybody's a learner" at Reedley Primary School

Having been named as 'Primary School of the Year' at the East Lancashire Education Awards just months after earning a 'Good' rating in their latest Ofsted report, "everybody's a learner" at Reedley Primary School, according to the Head Teacher.

Following an inspection in May of this year, the primary school received praise from Ofsted inspectors for the school's leadership structure and quality of teaching, as well as for the children's attitudes towards learning in what was Head Teacher, Mrs Sarah Bell's first report in the position.

Having started alongside her Deputy Head around 18 months ago, Mrs Bell said that the report was vindication for the school's staff and their efforts to make sure the quality of education as high as possible.

"The passion for learning is our highest priority, as well as making sure each child reaches their potential in a well-rounded environment," said Mrs Bell. "We try to develop a sense of independence so the children are an active part of their learning."

With positive feedback coming from parents and staff alike, Mrs Bell said that she feels that since she and her deputy started, they have been able to influence the school, and that their hard work is having telling results.

"Everybody's a learner," said Mrs Bell. "We're developing the curriculum further to allow for even more wide-ranging experiences. A big thing is that all of the members of staff here see themselves as learners as well, so we develop ourselves and our practice all the time to give our best for the children."

The report itself highlighted the school's leadership's "energy, passion and determination to continue to improve the school," adding: Pupils demonstrate extremely positive attitudes to learning in their lessons and around school."

A few points were raised as areas to address in the report - including writing attainment, for which future plans have been drawn up, and standards in maths - but for the 'Primary School of the Year', things are looking up.

"We've had a high staff turnover because we're so keen to get the right people, so to get a 'Good' rating was one of the main reasons for us being named 'Primary School of the Year'," said Mrs Bell.

"It's really positive that it has all come together; the staff work really hard: they're so dedicated and passionate," she added. "It was the icing on the cake at the end of a very good year."
