But many people may be worried about losing such beautiful landscapes due to climate change and be thinking about how they can do more this New Year to help the environment.
Here are five ways you can live a more eco-friendly life in Burnley:
1. Litter-picking
Why not get involved in community life while taking pride in the local environment by doing a spot of litter-picking? There are several voluntary groups you can join, including The Friends of Ightenhill Park, which host regular clean-ups. Search for them on Facebook to find out when their next event is.
Getting the youngsters involved early is the Community Kids Club Burnley, which is holding a pick and craft date on Sunday, January 29th, from 11am to 1pm.
The group will pick litter for an hour then enjoy some fun crafts with hot chocolate and snacks.

A great way to reduce waste and reuse items is to donate unwanted clothes, toys and homeware etc to one of Burnley's charity shops, like the British Heart Foundation. This can help you to cut down on what you throw away and prevent usable items from ending up on landfill.
The same of course goes for shopping in charity shops instead of buying items brand-new, which can have the added bonus of saving you several £££.

3. Shop wisely
You can do your bit for the environment by buying less plastic and using your own shopping bags.
Isitvegan in Burnley Market is a refill store that sells vegan produce. You can take your own containers and fill up on items you need, which cuts down on packing.

4. Plant a tree
Planting trees can help fight climate change and clean the air by locking up carbon and reducing pollution. They can also decrease flooding and support wildlife.
You can get involved by joining Trees for Burnley on Sunday from 10am to noon. Please meet at the rear of Thornton Arms (bottom car park) and wear warm, waterproof clothing and footwear. Tools and refreshments will be provided.
