End of an era as Post Office closes

Postmaster Steve Harvey has raised more than £100,000 for the charity in the past 10 years .

He has collected £50,000 from the sale of second hand books, £6,000 from his penny trail, £5,000 throgh his latest campaign “Raise a Million Pennies” and has sold stamps, foreign coins, old coins, games and even jigsaws to boost the total amount.

Unfortunately, the “Raise a Million Pennies” campaign will not reach it’s £10,000 target due to the closure of the Manchester Road post office.

Steve said: “The response from the public has been great over the years, whether it’s been bringing me books to sell, stamps, foreign coins or pennies.

“I’d like to thank all of my customers who have supported me and the hospice over the years. It’s the end of an era!”

Hospice chief executive Helen McVey said: “Steve has done a fantastic job in raising much needed funds for Pendleside Hospice over the years and has also been a great ambassador for the Hospice.

“We are sad that his post office is due to close in March. We thank Steve for all his support over the years and wish him well in the future.”
