Emma receives Queen’s Nurse award

Emma Brodie is a community clinical team leader with East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

She has been given the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse by community nursing charity the Queen’s Nursing Institute for her commitment to high standards of patient care, learning and leadership.

Nurses who hold the title benefit from developmental workshops, bursaries, networking opportunities and a shared professional identity.

Emma, from Briercliffe, was born and raised in Manchester, completing her nurse training at Trafford General Hospital. She spent her early career working at Christie cancer hospital, Manchester, before moving to East Lancashire in 2001 to take up a community nursing role in Bacup as a staff nurse.

She currently works at both Colne Health Centre and Yarnspinners Health Centre, Nelson, overseeing teams who provide care for around 1,000 patients.

Emma will travel to London later in the year where she will be one of several nurses nationwide awarded the title at the charity’s awards ceremony.

Emma said: “I really love working in the community as you get to see the patient’s whole life and it’s a real privilege to look after people in their homes. I’m really excited I’ve been named a Queen’s Nurse and am looking forward in future to improving skills and learning for nurses in the community to improve quality of care for patients.”
