Work to repair damage to burst pipe that caused a major flood in Burnley's Sycamore Avenue due to be completed this week
Work to repair damage to a burst pipe, that caused a major flood in Burnley, should be completed this week, United Utilities have said.
Water was sent cascading into Sycamore Avenue on Thursday evening at around 6-30pm, after the water main burst.
The leak, close to the Life Church, was repaired over the the weekend and the road has been closed to traffic while re-instatement work has continued throughout the week.

Teams from United Utilities worked through the night after the incident and water was restored to over 2,000 homes affected within a couple of hours. Working in conjunction with Burnley Council, crews had to remove items of street furniture to safely carry out further works to the pipe. Fortunately the flood water, which rose to around two or three feet, did not impact any properties.
Several residents turned out to pull together to form a barricade to prevent cars from entering the area as the flood water rose. They were also contacting neighbours, who were at work or not in, to inform them what had happened. And one resident on her way home arrived with dozens of bottles of water for those who needed it.
The United Utilities spokesman said: “We want to apologise to customers impacted by the loss of water, and we thank them for their patience.”
