Elderly woman hospitalised after sickening robbery
The 88-year-old victim was at her address in Birtwistle Fold when she heard her doorbell ring at around 5-20pm on Saturday.

The man is described as white, tanned, around 25 to 30 years old, 5ft. 9in., slim build. He was described as wearing all navy clothing including a long sleeved top and dark coloured flat pumps.
Det. Sgt Louise Darcy, of East CID, said: “This is a shocking incident whereby an elderly woman has been robbed in her own home and she has been left extremely shaken by what has happened to her. It took place in the early evening and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anything that could help with our enquiries to contact us as soon as possible.”
