The dependent, who is alcohol dependent, ended up being tended to by paramedics after the commotion last August 29th.

McCormack (39), of St Mary’s Street, Nelson, admitted possessing a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place and failing to surrender to court. The defendant received 23 weeks in custody, suspended for a year, with 12 months’ supervision and a six-month alcohol treatment requirement. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.

Bench chairman Mr Neil Tranmer told him: “This is made more serious because it was a particularly dangerous weapon, you were under the influence of drink and were in close proximity to licensed premises. It could have involved injury to yourself or others.”
