Shaun Heaton (25) of Lockyer Avenue, was charged with drink driving and is due to appear at Burnley Magistrates’ Court on March 25th.

Heaton was arrested following an accident at around 10-30pm on Saturday when the Citroen C4 he was driving smashed into a wall at the junction of Lakeland Way and Padiham Road.

It is believed the car came off the road, spun around 180 degrees and collided with the stone wall. No other vehicles were involved.

A 24-year-old passenger in the car was taken to hospital with head injuries as a precaution, police said.

When emergency services arrived on the scene both men were out of the car and being treated by off-duty nurses.

Firefighters helped to make the car safe following the accident.
