Drink-drive ban for care home supervisor

Victoria Helen Morton (27) was caught just after midnight the day after she bought her new Mini.

She had drunk two small bottles of lager and had learned a “ very harsh lesson” to discover she had broken the law.

Burnley Magistrates Court was told how Morton, a single mother, was forced to tell her bosses about the offence, but looked set to keep her job.

The defendant, of Latham Street, Burnley, admitted driving a Mini One on Netherfield Road, Nelson, with excess alcohol, on Saturday, July 25th.

She was banned for a year and fined £250 with a £25 victim surcharge. She was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £150 criminal court charge.

The court was told Morton was stopped by police and blew 40 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 35.

Nick Cassidy, who was representingthe defendant, told the justices: “She is truly sorry to appear before you.”

He said Morton had a position of responsibility at a care home and travelled around the North West seeing elderly people who may have Alzheimer’s and other dementia type conditions.

She had been at home with her boyfriend on the night of the offence and had only consumed two small bottles of lager so she was astounded to find she was over the limit.
