Crowds flock to Colne’s first food festival

Colne’s inaugural food festival – held in the Muni at the weekend – has been hailed as a great success by the organisers.

Around 4,000 people are said to have attended the event, which saw 50 stalls showing off all kinds of foods ranging from ostrich feathers and crocodile burgers to cola and cup cakes.

And while most stallholders were from along the M65 corridor, those attending also came from as far afield as Derby, Skelmersdale and Newcastle.

The event was organised by Colne interior designer Ashley Sutcliffe and Charlie Bolton, who runs the locally-based business Let’s Get Crafty.

Ashley said: “It was absolutely brilliant.

“We had a wide range of foods and we have had a lot of positive feedback.

“Some people have said they thought it was too busy – so if that is a negative we cannot have been doing a lot of things wrong.”

Ashley said that there would definitely be another festival in 2014.

“I think there would be a lot of disappointed people if we did not have another one,” he said.

“We are delighted with the way it went and would like to thank everyone for their support.”
