Critically acclaimed blues duo coming to Barnoldswick
A critically acclaimed blues duo is set to head to Barnoldswick in November for an intimate performance that promises to be one of the most emotionally powerful concerts of the season.
Curtis Salgado and guitarist Alan Hager are set to grace the intimate Music & Arts Centre on Tuesday, November 17th. Salgado has spent more than four decades forging a career built on sheer artistic integrity. His voice is one of the great instruments in American roots music—a mighty, weathered soul voice capable of whispering heartbreak one moment before erupting with the raw power of a Southern revival preacher the next.

His story is woven deeply into the fabric of American blues folklore. Long before the world knew The Blues Brothers, a young actor named John Belushi found himself captivated by Salgado while filming Animal House in Oregon during 1977. The pair spent countless hours immersed in classic blues records, with Salgado introducing Belushi to the music and artists that would ultimately inspire one of the most beloved musical creations in cinema history.
Salgado made his name with The Nighthawks before joining forces with the legendary Robert Cray Band. He later shared stages with giants including Muddy Waters, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Albert Collins and Bonnie Raitt, developing a reputation as one of the finest soul-blues vocalists of his generation. His time fronting the mighty Roomful of Blues further cemented his standing before embarking on a solo career that has consistently produced albums of extraordinary quality and emotional depth.
His albums ‘Soul Shot’ and ‘The Beautiful Lowdown’ earned widespread critical acclaim and swept the prestigious Blues Music Awards. Salgado claimed the coveted B.B. King Entertainer of the Year award alongside multiple Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year, Soul Blues Album of the Year honours and Song of the Year accolades—recognition reserved only for the elite figures of the international blues community.
Away from the stage, Salgado’s journey has been marked by extraordinary adversity. He has battled liver cancer, fought lung cancer twice, undergone quadruple bypass surgery and repeatedly returned to the stage with an even greater appreciation for the healing power of music. Those experiences have given his performances a depth and honesty few artists can ever hope to achieve.
For one unforgettable evening later this year, Barnoldswick Music & Arts Centre will become the place where the heart of American blues beats louder than ever. Tickets are available at https://www.barnoldswickmusicandartscentre.com/curtis-salgado-and-alan-hager
