Police investigation launched after cargo of nitrous oxide canisters discovered in Ribble Valley
Police were called out yesterday after a large box of the so called 'laughing gas' canisters were found in Whalley.
Officers responded after receiving a report of a vehicle seen unloading items and then leaving the area.
After a quick area search they found a large box and rucksack containing a large amount of nitrous oxide canisters.
Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is classed as a psychoactive substance and, if inhaled directly from the canister, can cause the throat muscles to spasm and if not treated quickly can cause unconsciousness or death.
