Police forensics teams are scouring Burnley's Household Waste Recycling Centre as part of a continuing firearms investigation.

The specialist officers have been seen at the centre in Widow Hilld Road today, and police confirmed it was the linking to an incident in Brierfield on Wednesday evening.Police were called at around 7-10pm on Wednesday to the report of an altercation and a weapon being discharged on Humphrey Street, Brierfield.

The victim, an 18-year-old man, suffered facial injuries and remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Officers are in the early stages of their enquiries and are keen to trace any witnesses.

They are appealing for anyone who saw what happened or who has any dashcam or CCTV to get in touch.

Police believe the discharge of the firearm followed an altercation on the street and may be linked to an incident a short earlier at the nearby Morrisons Daily store on Colne Road.
