Burnley magistrates were told how Jeremy Smith (33) lobbed a brick at the Ford Fiesta, belonging to Kieren Dale, causing £500 worth of damage. He said he wasn’t aware the pair were in a relationship.Smith had “lost it” and had broken the car windscreen, driver’s window and wing mirrors in the 9am outburst at the property in the town on October 18th.Smith, of Westgate, Burnley, admitted damage. He was given a six-month conditional discharge and must pay £500 compensation and a £20 victim surcharge.Mrs Alex Mann (prosecuting) told the court Mr Day said the defendant and his girlfriend separated in 2014. Smith was seen at the address shouting names at his girlfriend, before causing the damage.Mr Glen Smith (defending) said Smith and his ex-partner had a child together and split up about four or five weeks before the incident. There had been some communication regarding the possibility of potentially reuniting. The defendant had not seen the child for two or three weeks and had gone round to try and re-establish contact. The solicitor added: “What caused him to lose it was when Kieren Dale appeared at the window alongside his child. He wasn’t happy about him refusing him contact. He vented his frustration on that inanimate object.”
