CCTV footage released following robbery at Burnley bookmakers

Police have released CCTV footage of a man they would like to trace following a robbery at Coral Betting Shop on Harry Potts Way in Burnley last year.

At around 8.45pm on Monday 21 July 2014, a man wearing a balaclava entered the bookmakers armed with a large sword which was around 2 feet long.

He approached the counter and demanded money from staff. He then struck the computer screen which operates the till with the sword and knocked over displays within the shop.

The man then jumped over the counter, continuing to make demands for money and brandishing the weapon towards staff before stealing approximately £150 to £200 from the till.

He left the shop and is believed to have escaped towards the direction of Holcombe Drive.

The man is described as white, approximately 5’10 in height with a slim build and spoke with a local accent. At the time he was wearing a grey tracksuit top with a logo on the top of the hood and dark tracksuit bottoms.

DC Dave Greenwood of Pennine CID, said: “This was a violent and aggressive attack which left two members of staff terrified and fearful for their own safety. It has been some time since the initial incident but we remain determined to identify the man responsible and hope that someone who views the footage may hold important information about his identity.”
