Brierfield man jailed for drug offences following car intercept

A Brierfield man, arrested after his car was stopped by police, has been jailed for drug supply offences.

Officers from the Pendle task force intercepted a car on Scotland Road in Nelson last December 27th.

Ali Shah (29) from Victoria Avenue, Brierfield, was detained for the purpose of a drugs search after numerous empty snap bags fell from the car when the police apprehended Shah. When searched, he was also found to be in possession of just over one ounce of cannabis along with £870 in cash and weighing scales.

Shah was arrested at the time and released under investigation whereby officers conducted further enquiries.

A mobile phone which was seized from Shah contained many text messages which indicated that was heavily involved in the supply of drugs.

On April 3rd he was charged with possession with intent to supply class B drugs.

On Friday he appeared at Burnley Crown Court where he was sentenced to 58 weeks in prison.

A police spokesman said: "We will continue to target people who are involved in the supply of drugs which no doubt makes Pendle community a safer place to live and be.
