Binge drinker Wayne Lord struck while the victim was sitting in his house. He heard a loud bang and saw Lord walking away.

The victim found a glass panel in his door had been broken and when police attended they took swabs of blood from the shards of glass and found it matched the defendant.

Burnley magistrates were told how unemployed Lord also stole a £10 crate of Foster’s lager from Spar, which put him in breach of two conditional discharges for theft. He was caught on CCTV.

Lord, of Wycollar Avenue, Burnley, admitted criminal damage on January 27th and theft on March 10th.

The 23-year-old was sent to an attendance centre for 24 hours and must pay £110 compensation and an £85 victim surcharge. Bench chairman Lynn Kemp, told him: “What is clear is that you need somebody to intervene in what’s going on in your life and give you some assistance.”

Mr Mark Williams, defending Lord, said: “He was a bit upset. He also concedes he had had a drink. He banged on the window in frustration and it broke.”

The solicitor said Lord had a long record, but it was not really dishonesty-related.

Mr Williams added: “He binge drinks. He drinks too much and he has got himself in trouble once under the influence.”
