Police are appealing for information after a 10-year-old girl was grabbed by the wrists by a man in Nelson.

The incident happened at around 7.15pm on Thursday, September 22nd in Regent Street in the town.

Police said that the girl had told them she had had walking home from a shop on Regent Street, when she was approached by a man and offered sweets.

When she refused them he grabbed her wrist, but she managed to break free and ran to her nearby home.

The man is described as dark skinned and in his early thirties.

Det. Con. Lee Walker, of East CID, said: “We are in the early stages of our inquiries and at this stage it is still unclear exactly what may have happened. “ would like to reassure people that we take all reports of this nature very seriously and I would urge people to exercise vigilance and to report anything suspicious to the police.”
