Countdown to Pendle Cycling Festival

A series of guided bike rides are taking place in Pendle over the next few weeks as part of the annual Cycling Festival.

And this year’s Festival is extra special, as it includes the opening of the Steven Burke Sports Hub at Swinden Playing Fields on June 28th, followed by a week of activities at the hub, including:

l A try a bike adult session on Monday, June 30th.

l An adapted bike open day on Tuesday, July 1st.

l A children’s learn to ride taster session on Wednesday, July 2nd.

l And an inter schools racing final on Thursday, July 3rd.

The guided rides, some of which form part of the week’s events at the Steven Burke Sports Hub, are suitable for a range of abilities, including beginners, families and advanced riders. They’re being led by Burnley and Pendle Cyclists Touring Club, Pendle Leisure Trust’s Health Lifestyles Team and Pendle Forest Cycling Club.

Bikes and helmets are available to borrow or hire for some of the rides. Here are the details: Sunday, June 29th: 9am – Experienced riders. Laneshaw Bridge to Washburn Valley. Call Ian Lowcock on 812842 to book.

10am – Short family/beginners’ ride. Steven Burke Sports Hub to Foulridge and back. Call 07825 883572 to book.

1pm – Beginners’ mountain bike ride. Steven Burke Sports Hub to Slipper Hill and back. Just turn up.

1pm – Experienced riders. National Road Race Circuit, including the Nick O’Pendle. Call 07825 883572 to book.

Tuesday, July 1st: 11am – Beginners’ ride. Meet at Seedhill Athletics track.

6-30pm – Intermediate ride. White Bear, Barrowford to the Cross Gaits, Blacko. Call Peter on 860507 to book.

Wednesday, July 2nd: 1-30pm – Improvers’ ride. Meet at Seedhill Athletics track.
