The historic market hall, which is home to a range of independent operators offering street food, drinks and desserts, officially reopened on 1 May after an extensive transformation led by Market Quarter Group and Pendle Borough Council. The transformation brought together a mix of independent food traders, bars and community space under one roof as well as a regular programme of live entertainment and events.

Further events, seasonal activations and new trader announcements are planned throughout the summer as the venue continues to establish itself as a key destination within Lancashire’s hospitality and leisure scene.

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “The transformation of Colne Market Hall is a key part of our plans to reinvigorate the town centre, attract more visitors and support the day and evening economy.

“The market has been an important part of Colne’s heritage and town centre for many years and these improvements will help ensure it continues to serve residents, visitors and businesses long into the future.

“It’s fantastic to see the traders returning and the Market Hall buzzing with activity once again.”

Since its launch weekend, the venue has welcomed strong footfall from both local residents and visitors from across Lancashire and beyond, helping to drive increased activity across Colne town centre and supporting neighbouring businesses.

The reopening marked a significant milestone in the wider regeneration of Colne, transforming the historic building into a modern market hall while retaining many of its original features and character.

More than 3,000 people visited the Market Hall during its first week alone, with 10,000 in its first month, providing a significant boost for traders and town centre businesses.

Ged Lynch, Head of Food & Beverage at Market Quarter Group, said, “The response over the first month has been fantastic. From day one we’ve seen people travelling from across Lancashire and beyond to come and experience the new Market Hall.

“It’s been brilliant to see the atmosphere building week after week, not just inside the venue but across Colne town centre as a whole. The traders have worked incredibly hard to make the launch a success and we’re excited to keep building on that momentum throughout the summer.”

Councillor Lola Whipp, Deputy Leader of Pendle Borough Council, added: “Colne Market Hall is already proving to be a real success story for the town.

“The fantastic early visitor numbers show there is strong demand for high-quality spaces where people can shop locally, enjoy great food and spend time together.

“This investment is helping to create a more vibrant and sustainable town centre, supporting independent businesses and encouraging more people to visit Colne both during the day and into the evening.”
