Clitheroe Library launches photo contest

PHOTOGRAPHERS of all ages should have their cameras at the ready for a new competition being held by Clitheroe Library.

The photography competition, on the theme of “The Magic of Gardening”, is part of the run-up to the library’s annual “Plant and Seed Swap”.

Mary Palmer, manager at Clitheroe Library, said: “We are looking for photographers to really inspire us with their vision of their gardens, the natural environment or local wildlife.

“All of the entries will be displayed in the library and there will be prizes for the winners.”

There are three age categories for the competition: under-11s, 11-16, and adults. Entry is free and limited to four images per person. The closing date is Saturday, September 24th.

Prizes of photo albums and frames, donated by Boots Chemists, will be presented at the “Seed and Plant Swap” on October 1st.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the day, as well as seeing the result of the photo competition, local people are invited to bring cuttings, seeds or plants to swap.

Radio Lancashire gardening expert Peter Foley will on hand to answer questions, with members of Chatburn allotment society and Clitheroe gardening club.

An officer from the Wildlife Trust will be making bee houses, and staff from the county council’s museums service will bring along items from their nature collection that visitors can handle and pass around.
