Clitheroe Castle bandstand refurbishment marches on with £600,000 project
The £600,000 project, part of a £2.3million investment in Clitheroe Castle, will see the bandstand repainted, its stage resurfaced and distinctive tiered steps repaved by November.
Work on the refurbishment of Clitheroe Castle’s iconic bandstand is marching on.
The £600,000 project, due for completion in November, will see the Clitheroe Castle bandstand repainted, its stage resurfaced and distinctive tiered steps repaved.
New permanent lighting columns will be installed in the New Year, while railings, benches and pathways will be replaced and resurfaced around the bandstand and throughout the castle grounds over the coming months.
The project is the latest phase of a £2.3million investment in Clitheroe Castle by the site’s owners, Ribble Valley Borough Council.
Clitheroe castle’s 800-year-old keep was shrouded in scaffolding and covers for much of the year, while specialist contractors fixed crumbling stonework, fitted new flashing to prevent water damage and thinned surrounding overgrown foliage.
There have also been revamps of the multi-use games area (MUGA) and installation of an outdoor gym on the former tennis courts.
Stuart Hirst, chairman of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s community services committee, said: “The bandstand is a much-loved structure in the castle grounds and has hosted many concerts over the years.
“The refurbishment work is marching on and we are looking forward to the bandstand reopening for use shortly.”
The bandstand will be officially reopened next year, when the programme of works at Clitheroe Castle is completed.
