The cash will be allocated to the Space Youth Bus over the next three years to fund six part-time staff members and the running of the bus, which provides a free, safe, friendly environment for young people between seven and 20.

Youth workers help to act as positive role models empowering young people to break out of the cycle of deprivation, to aspire and achieve their goals by building their confidence and trust and discussing a range of lifestyle issues.

Youngsters get access to internet, computers, games consoles, interactive issue based workshops, educational games and sports activities.

The Space Bus is also used to deliver workshops and educational sessions on topics that have detrimental effect on young people such as alcohol, drugs and sexual health.

Lynne Blackburn, project manager at Participation Works North West, which runs the bus, said: “We could not reach out to the young people in Burnley without the support of BBC Children in Need.

“This grant will go on to change the lives of so many young people and give them the support they need. We are so pleased we have been successful with the funding, this will enable us to continue to offer a free facility for young people to access when so many organisations are closing and struggling for funding.”
