Child treated after Brierfield house fire

A 12-year-old child was treated for smoke inhalation following a fire at a house in Brierfield.

Two fire engines were called to the incident in Carlton Street at 4-20pm on Monday.

The ground floor front room was well alight when firefighters arrived on the scene. Wearing breathing apparatus they managed to get the blaze under control before carrying out a search of the property to make sure no casualties were still inside.

The child was given treatment by firefighters and paramedics at the scene and was later taken to Blackburn Royal Hospital for precautionary checks.

The front room suffered severe fire damage with the remainder of the house suffering both heat and smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by police.
