Chef who cooked for American president starts new job in Burnley
Spencer Burge is now cooking up a treat at Bertram’s Restaurant, housed in the Woodland Spa at Crow Wood Leisure Centre.
Burnley man Spencer is nationally recognised, having won Best Sunday Lunch at the Observer Food Awards, Dessert Pub of the Year, and Best Local Produce Award, both awarded by industry “Bible” The Publican.
Spencer hails from Liverpool where he first studied to be a chef at Halton College, before going on to train at the prestigious Adelphi Hotel and working at Aintree Race Course.
Having worked all over the country, including a stint in a Roux brothers’ kitchen, Spencer was Head Chef at The Fence Gate, before his move to Bertram’s.
He said: “I’m delighted to be Head Chef of a new, modern and vibrant restaurant like Bertram’s. It is a fabulous venue.”
Oliver Brown, director at Crow Wood, said: “Spencer is very well known in this area – but he has also worked under and alongside very influential chefs such as the Roux brothers.
