Check before heading for Manchester

Drivers in Greater Manchester are being advised the current full closure of the clockwise M60 at junction 19 at Middleton due to a serious incident is likely to last into the afternoon.

Two vehicles collided on the carriageway at around 6-30am this morning.

Police are currently carrying out an incident investigation while Highways Agency contractors are at the scene repairing the central reservation safety barrier.

The safety barrier in the hard shoulder is also in need of repair and a full or partial closure of the clockwise carriageway is likely to continue for several hours.

Highways Agency traffic officers have been at the scene helping to manage traffic with an ‘up and over’ diversion in place using the junction exit and entry slip roads to help drivers bypass the incident scene. However, congestion in the area remains very heavy with clockwise M60 and southbound M66 routes particularly affected and drivers are being urged to avoid the area if possible.

Drivers are urged to check travel conditions before setting out on journeys.
