CCTV of petrol thieves who filled up and drove off in Burnley and Pendle

Officers are releasing CCTV images of people they want to speak with in connection with a number of these types of offences.

The first incident occurred on April 12th in Nelson at Morrison’s petrol station in Pendle Street, the driver filled up his car before leaving without paying.

Another offence was reported in Burnley on May 8th where a car was filled up at the Tesco Express and Esso service station in Casterton Avenue and the driver left without paying.

Finally there were two separate incidents (May 11th and 14th) at the Spar Shell service station in Manchester Road, Nelson.

Two different cars, but both displaying the same stolen registration plate, were filled up with the driver making no attempt to pay on each occasion.

Police are now keen to speak with a number of people captured on CCTV in connection with these incidents

Sgt Chris Valentine said: “We are continuing to work closely with petrol station staff and the British Oil Security Syndicate to raise awareness and prevent this type of crime.

“I would urge anyone who recognises these men to contact the police and help us to progress our investigations.”

Service stations registered with the new Forecourt Watch scheme benefit from sharing information with police and each other on suspects, vehicles and known offenders to maximise disruption and detection of offences.

Sgt Valentine added: “We recognise the theft of fuel has a significant impact on consumers and retailers and we are committed to working with other agencies to tackle this sort of crime.”
