Through the family business, L. Blakey (Finance), he worked with several thousand clients across Burnley and Nelson for 45 years.

Supported by his well-known father, James Blakey, of Cleveland Mount, Burnley, Bob was recognised early as a promising footballer, playing for Burnley Colts as centre-half.

During National Service he represented Dorset, while stationed there with the Pay Corps. After qualifying as a chartered accountant in 1956, he settled in Whalley where he lived until 2012.

Throughout his life, he had a passion for sport and education. He was chairman of Westholme Sports Association, Blackburn, and was a keen tennis and badminton player. In later years he was an avid bridge player on the club circuit.
