Although, the Prairies Sports Village has only been open for a month, more than 200,000 balls have been hit and over 3000 people have already visited the facility.

Burnley Leisure’s head of operations Neil Hutchinson said: “The Prairie has a lot to offer to professional golfers and beginners alike, and we’re very pleased with its growing popularity.

“In the short time we’ve been open, we had visitors come and try the facility not only from Burnley, but also from surrounding areas including Clitheroe, Pendle, Todmorden and Skipton.

“The response from everyone who has visited so far has been fantastic.”

The £2.5m. complex, owned by Burnley Council and managed by Burnley Leisure, houses a 16-bay golf driving range, golf pro shop, and multi-purpose studio.

A teaching facility is equipped with golf simulator and GC2 launch monitor, which allows players to track their results, enhance the performance and play golf courses from around the world.

PGA golf professional James Major is operating a coaching programme from the site for anyone interested in playing the sport.

His team is at the Prairie six days a week, focusing on getting people involved in the sport.

Outside facilities include the FA approved 3G floodlit football pitch and new changing rooms housed in the main building. At the venue, Burnley Leisure is running seven-a-side football leagues as well as women’s winter rounders league on Tuesday evenings.
