The Knowledge Park, which will be located next to Burnley College and the university campus, is part of wider proposals to transform the Princess Way area into the Knowledge Quarter, a centre of excellence for education and a flagship site for advanced manufacturing, digital and creative industries.

Offices, workshops and an enterprise centre are envisaged for the site where businesses will have the opportunity to work closely with UCLan’s Burnley Campus, which has already produced student and graduate start-up businesses.

Trebor Developments LLP had been selected as the developer for the two hectare site.

Burnley Council leader Julie Cooper said: “The Knowledge Park will provide a unique offer to advanced manufacturing and digital industries who can tap into the advanced research and development, and the unrivalled manufacturing and robotic technologies from the adjacent Knowledge Quarter education campus.

“I’m confident Trebor will deliver an attractive business park to attract new businesses to Burnley.”

A recent £1m. investment was carried out to improve the surrounding area.

Burnley Council’s chief Executive Steve Rumbelow said the vision was to make Burnley a “regionally significant centre for advanced manufacturing.”

He added: “To achieve this it is important we create modern business environments in which these businesses can thrive and we are confident Trebor Developments will create the right environment to attract growing businesses from advanced engineering and digital industries.

“The council is working hard to promote the borough to attract new investment and to put in place the infrastructure to attract new businesses”.

Bob Tattrie, managing partner for Trebor Developments LLP, said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Burnley Council for this exciting opportunity.
