Burnley woman dies following disability scooter accident

Police have confirmed that an elderly woman has died following an accident while riding her disability scooter.

Burnley woman Mrs Dorothy Kenny (71) died in hospital this morning (Tuesday).

She was involved in an accident around 1pm last Friday, when crossing Manchester Road on her mobility scooter she collided with a beige Fiat Panda at the junction with Gainsborough Avenue.

She received a serious injury to her leg and head and was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital.

The driver of the Fiat Panda was not injured.

Sgt John Jennings-Wharton said: “An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

“I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw either of the vehicles being driven prior to the collision to contact police.”
