Year 9, 10 and 11 pupils from all of Burnley’s five high schools attended throughout the day to get a taste of different careers – all of which are available in the town – from making bread to building a jet engine.

Helen Gopsill, Aircelle’s HR director, said: “Work Inspiration was a showcase for the breadth of opportunity in Burnley and demonstrated to the town and across the wider region that we have an advanced manufacturing sector with world-beating businesses, an excellent retail and leisure sector, plus rapid-growth in emerging sectors, like creative and digital, as well as sustainability.

“Burnley feels like a town that is going places at the moment – we have great new schools, university campuses and thriving businesses. The investment we’re seeing with the rail link to Manchester and work starting on the Weavers’ Triangle, gives us all grounds for optimism.

“With so much now in place, Burnley businesses want to work closely with our schools and colleges so via the Work Inspiration event we can engage with young people in the town.”
