Burnley student scores netball goal... on top of Scafell Pike
Abi Green of Burnley, an undergraduate student at the University of Manchester, has undertaken a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Diamond Challenge to raise funds to help the DofE put two million more young people through the program – 400,000 of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Taking the aim of playing her favourite sport netball at the highest level quite literally, by rising to the challenge set by her father David: to score a netball goal on top of the highest ground in England, Scafell Pike in The Lake District National Park.

Hide AdHaving trekked up the imposing monolith, Abi and her dad reached the summit, where - braving the 40mph winds - the duo set about erecting the netball goals and Abi donned her netball gear in the freezing conditions.
The highest English netball goals scored were recorded for posterity, with Abi and her father completing the challenge - taken up to celebrate The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award 60th Diamond Anniversary and a year in which the DofE Charity is calling on people of all ages to set and achieve their goals through the Diamond Challenge.
