Burnley residents invited to join Remembrance services
We will remember them.
Burnley will come together this November to remember the courage, service and sacrifice of those who have served, and continue to serve, in the Armed Forces.
Residents, veterans, serving personnel and community organisations are invited to join the borough’s annual Remembrance events at the Peace Gardens in Burnley town centre. Burnley’s Remembrance Sunday Service will take place on Sunday 8th November.
A parade of serving Armed Forces personnel, veterans and members of other uniformed services will make its way through Burnley town centre ahead of the service.
Members of the public are warmly invited to watch the parade from 10.30am outside Marks & Spencer on St James’ Street, or gather at the Peace Gardens from 10.45am to welcome the parade and join the service.
The service will begin at 10.50am and will include prayers, readings, music and a period of reflection as the borough remembers those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Wreaths will also be laid at the memorial stone by representatives of local organisations and groups.
The Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of Burnley, Councillor Saeed Chaudhary, will join representatives from Burnley Council, the Royal British Legion, Ex-Servicemen’s Associations, the Armed Forces, Cadet Forces, uniformed groups, public organisations and members of the community.
At the conclusion of the service, the parade will continue past Burnley Police Station.
A further service will take place at the Peace Gardens on Wednesday, November 11, beginning at 10.50am.
The service will offer an opportunity for quiet reflection and remembrance, with prayers and tributes followed by the national two minutes’ silence at 11am.
The Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of Burnley, Councillor Saeed Chaudhary, said: “Remembrance gives us the opportunity to come together as a community and honour all those who have served our country and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
“The freedoms we have today were secured through extraordinary courage and selflessness, and it is important that we continue to remember those sacrifices and pass that understanding on to future generations.
“I hope people from across Burnley and Padiham will join us in November, whether they have a personal connection to the Armed Forces or simply wish to stand alongside their community and pay their respects.”
Everyone is welcome to attend the services and join Burnley in remembering those who served and sacrificed.
