Burnley nightclub closes after ‘landlord dispute’

The Level One Burnley club in Bull Street shut just days after the busy Christmas and New Year period.

The nightspot, which has attracted famous names including TV star Danny Dyer and DJ Mark Freejack, reportedly closed over a dispute with the landlord.

A “do not enter” notice has appeared on the doors of the club which said the building had been “repossessed” by landlord Hendon Trading Co. Ltd.

Management at Level One posted a message on Twitter to customers in the wake of the closure which comes barely six months after the club first opened.

It read: “Sadly due to a dispute with the landlord Level 1 Burnley is closed, we cannot comment further as the matter is in our solicitor’s hands

“Accrington and Darwen are unaffected and we thank everyone who supported the venue and we wish the town’s nightlife good success in 2014.”

The building has become a landmark in Burnley with a 50ft high image of Mickey Mouse and other graffiti art spray-painted on the side.

The club, which was formerly Paradise Island and then Inside Out and also Paradise, opened in July.

Jimmy Nelson, who owns the building, said: “Unfortunately it has closed. The tenant was in breach of the terms of the lease.

“We are now looking for a new tenant to move in. It has always been an iconic venue in Burnley and one of the town’s busiest pubs.

“I hope it can be resurrected soon and become that iconic pub once again.”
