Janet Sutton and Margaret Lofthouse, who own The Avenue, in Brockhall Village, will battle it every night this week against B&B owners from Cumbria and Cornwall to scoop a coveted prize.

Although they have to remain tight-lipped about who walks away with the prize until after Friday’s episode has been aired, Janet, a former pupil of Walshaw High School, said there was plenty of confrontation.

Tonight’s show will see Janet and Margaret go first to host the other hotel owners. The episode will show guests staying overnight in a room at The Avenue, taking part in an activity at Outdoor Elements in Simonstone and having an evening meal and breakfast. Guests then rate the service and pay however much they think the overnight stay is worth.

The business rated as offering the best value for money will emerge the winner at the end of the week.

Janet said: “The producers contacted us and I thought it would be a superb opportunity to promote the business.

“We filmed it at the beginning of September and it was very hard work because you’ve got cameras on you all the time.

“It was gruelling but really enjoyable. We got to go to Penrith and two hotels in Cornwall so it was also nice for us to get away.

“We had someone who was very critical but the rest of the people were lovely. It got a bit confrontational towards the end of the week with a few heated debates.”

• The programme will be shown on Channel 4 at 5pm.
