Burnley buses display giant poppies for Remembrance Day
Transdev is offering free bus travel to serving members of the Armed Forces and veterans on Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day
Burnley buses are displaying giant commemorative poppies as part of a regional transport operator’s campaign to mark Remembrance Day, and offering free bus travel to service members and veterans.
Transdev, which operates the Burnley Bus Company, has adorned dozens of its vehicles with poppies, alongside hundreds more across its fleets in Lancashire and Yorkshire.
The company is also offering free bus travel to serving members of the Armed Forces and veterans on Remembrance Sunday, November 8, and Armistice Day on Wednesday, November 11.
Serving personnel will be able to travel free across Transdev’s network by showing their Forces ID, while veterans can take advantage of the offer if they are wearing uniform or their medals.
Transdev managing director Henri Rohard said the campaign was intended to recognise the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces and encourage passengers to support charitable causes helping veterans.
He said: “This Remembrance Weekend and Armistice Day, we are reminded of the sacrifice that the men and women of our Armed Forces have made for our freedom.
“We hope that by displaying these large poppies on our buses, many of our customers will join us in remembering those who serve and will donate to charitable causes that support our veterans.
“And for those current and former personnel who use our buses, we hope the free travel option allows them to visit friends, family, and local Remembrance events on both of these important days.”
The campaign forms part of Transdev’s wider support for the Armed Forces community.
In September, the company attended a careers event at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire, with several members of staff who had previously served in the military representing the business.
Transdev has also joined the Ministry of Defence’s Career Transition Partnership, which helps service personnel move into civilian employment.
