Burnley barber dies aged 45

Mohammed Azam ran Second Impressions barber shop in Abel Street for almost 20 years and trained many local hairdressers in the craft.

But the award-winning barber and father-of-one lost his fight with cancer and died on June 5th

His family described him as a “generous” and “kind” man who would go the extra mile to help people.

Syab Raza, a nephew of Mr Azam, said: “He was a very generous person. He would always help people out in any way he could.

“He could be quite opinionated but he was honest and caring. The family have been overwhelmed with support from customers and people he knew.”

Mr Azam, who originated from Pakistan, set up his Burnley barber shop in 1994.

Mr Raza, who is also a barber, said: “It is a very well know shop in the town. He trained a lot of the young barbers up in the local area. I was trained by him and I don’t think I would be where I am if it was not for him.”

His family will continue to run the business.

Mr Azam was an avid cricketer for Hussainia Cricket Club and did a lot of charity work for Minhaj-ul-Quran in Nelson.

A service was held for Mr Azam, who has a wife Shamim and daughter Shamila, before he was buried in his homeland.
