Burnley and Pendle Youth Achievement Awards launched
Organised by Burnley Youth Theatre, the first Burnley and Pendle Youth Achievement Awards are designed to celebrate the very special young people we have in our area.
Anyone who is aged between 8 and 18 and lives or goes to school/college in Burnley or Pendle is eligible to be nominated. The Burnley Express is supporting Burnley Youth Theatre with the awards.

Hide AdThe award ceremony is set to be a fantastic evening of celebration and entertainment and is to be held at BYT on Friday, September 16th, 2016.
To nominate a young person please email [email protected] or call 01282 427767 to request a nomination form. Entries close at midnight on August 5th, 2016. Burnley Youth Theatre is a registered charity and has been established in the town since 1973.
Award Categories
Courage – the young person could have helped save a life, shown tremendous courage or triumphed against the odds, challenged adversity and shown a determination to succeed in life. Sponsor – Ring Stones
Helping the community – the young person could have helped someone in their community, done errands or could have worked on a community project, supported a vulnerable person. This category is all about making their community a better place to live or work. Sponsor - Calico

Hide AdYoung Entrepreneur – the young person will have shown entrepreneurial spirit: innovation and/or risk-taking, showing business sense to succeed in an ever changing and increasingly competitive marketplace. Sponsor – Resolute HR
Achievements in academia – the young person has excelled in scholarly activities, not just in their grades, but in the whole of academic life, including attitude, attendance and attainment. Sponsor – Nelson and Colne College
Achievement in the performing arts – the young person has excelled in drama, dance, music or some other expressive art form. This is about celebrating children with natural talent and ability. Sponsor – AMS Neve
Achievement in sport – the young person has excelled in their chosen sport and has demonstrated passion and enthusiasm, whilst also being able to respect their fellow competitor and peers – it’s all about the taking part. Sponsor - Nat West

Hide AdYoung Carer – the young person helps care for a family member on a regular basis who is sick, disabled or has mental health problems, or is misusing drugs or alcohol. This award will recognise the huge responsibilities the child deals with on a regular basis. Sponsor - Jay-Care
Young Person of the Year – this is the most coveted award and the highest accolade that can be given as part of this celebration.
The award will be judged on merit and will go to a very special child (chosen from the selection of nominated children on the actual day). Sponsor – Charter Walk
