Burnley 10k: which roads will be closed

Runners will hit the streets of Burnley on Sunday, June 5th, for one of the area's most popular 10K charity road runs.

The Asda Foundation Burnley 10K is expected to raise tens of thousands of pounds for a variety of local good causes.

The race organiser, Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All, is now advising that a number of roads will be closed or have access restricted to ensure the safe running of the event, which starts at 9-30am.

Now in its fourth year, this year’s run boasts a new route.

Runners have a flat and fast start and will run along the bottom of Towneley Park’s Events Triangle before heading along Hall Road and turning right after the Stables Café. They will then follow the tree-lined causeway out of the park for a long downhill section along Todmorden Road.

The route crosses Harry Potts Way at Turf Moor, and follows Belvedere Road to the fire station before turning left into Thompson Park. Runners leave Thompson Park at Queen Victoria Road then head up Queens Park Road, taking in further parkland then down Ormerod Road to meet Belvedere Road again and the return to Towneley.

Among the roads affected by closures are The Avenue, The Causeway, Hall Road, Jubilee Park Way, Park Bridge Road, Queen Victoria Road, Todmorden Road, Belvedere Road, Ormerod Road, Towneley Holmes Road and Queens Park Road. Charlie Tatman, Run For All events manager, said: “The Asda Foundation Burnley 10K is one of the highlights of the region’s running calendar and benefits many good causes.

“Unfortunately some roads have to be closed for the safety of those taking part. We work very hard to keep any inconvenience to a minimum and roads will be open as soon as it is safe to do so. We do apologise for any disruption caused.”

Many people will be running for a good cause of their own choice or for one of the event’s partner charities – the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Macmillan Cancer Support, Pendleside Hospice, Burnley Leisure Trust, Every Action Has Consequences and Burnley FC In The Community.
