This unique cafe, named Ehsaas, has been set up by Mubashir Khan and Kerry Stewart to breakdown barriers in Asian communities by encouraging residents to talk about the taboo issue of drug misuse. The pair have set up the cafe with the hopes of replicating in Brierfield the work of Inspire, a substance misuse service in Burnley, after recognising that such support tends to falls outside of Asian communities.

Plans are now in place to create support groups for addicts within the next month, including RAMP, a reduction and motivation programme with the aim of preparing users for recovery and abstinence.

The FACT Group, (Families and Carers Together) has also been designed to help carers of addicts deal with issues relating to drug use, such as stress, depression and familial breakups.

Ehsaas, meaning empathy and understanding in Urdu, will also provide a Mutual Aid Group, SMART meetings and meditation workshops. There will be a further programme in Urdu.

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson and County Coun. Azar Ali joined the pair in celebrating the opening of the cafe at the Cornerhouse, Colne Road, at a special lunch and networking event on Tuesday, August 12th.
