Brierfield man jailed after bowling alley gang fight

Mohammed Danish Junaid (22), of Taylor Street, was one of three men sentenced to a total of over five years in prison after admitting violent disorder at Preston Crown Court in December.

When they appeared for sentence on Thursday, Junaid was jailed for 36 weeks.

His co-accused, Hassan Waqqar Malik (26), of Pringle Street, Blackburn, and Shabaz Nawaz (27), of Edith Street, Blackburn, received sentences of four-and-a-half years and one year two weeks respectively.

All three admitted their involvement in the fight at Bowlplex in Mason Street, Blackburn, around 9-40 p.m. on December 27th, 2010, during which a 20-year-old man suffered a severe cut to his head and bruising to his body and arms after he was attacked with a pint glass.

A 41-year-old man and 42-year-old woman received severe cuts to their head and bruising to their faces and body after they tried to intervene in the fight. The offenders then fled in a Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce. A 20-year-old woman was kicked in her stomach.

They were all arrested after a lengthy investigation by Blackburn CID. Inquiries revealed the expensive cars they were seen leaving in had been hired. The incident was also captured on CCTV.

DC Steve Russell said: “This was a violent and unprovoked attack on a group of innocent people and it was lucky no one was seriously injured.

“Members of the public have the right to go out and enjoy themselves without being subjected to extreme violence and I hope these sentences act as warning to anyone who thinks serious violent crime is acceptable that it won’t be tolerated.

“I would like to reassure the people of Blackburn that incidents of this nature are very rare but where they do happen, we will carry out robust and thorough investigations to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.”
