Brierfield blaze garage tenants must quit

Members of Pendle Council’s Brierfield and Reedley Committee agreed to the move but voted against giving notice to the tenants of eight further garages on the site in Richard Street.

The blaze in July was attended by crews from Nelson and Burnley and one of the garages was found to contain petroleum gas cylinders.

Fortunately, the fire was put out before it reached these but in talks with council officials, Lancashire Fire and Rescue expressed concerns that if the fire was to be repeated and cylinders were stored in a garage affected, there could be a major explosion.
