Brierfield accident: police appeal

Police have issued an appeal following a car accident which left a man with serious injuries.

The accident happened on Tuesday around 7-10pm when a 27-year-old man travelling in a black Toyota Yaris along Clitheroe Road, Brierfield, lost control of the vehicle, and veered across the road where he hit a wooden bollard and a large tree.

The car was significantly damaged and eventually stopped in a grassed area of waste ground. The driver had to be cut out of the vehicle by the fire service.

He was to Royal Preston Hospital with head and spinal injuries as well as broken ribs. He is currently described as serious but stable.

Sgt Tracey Ward from the Road Policing Unit said: “This man is still very poorly in hospital.

“We are trying to determine exactly what happened to cause him to veer over the road and crash into the tree and so I am asking anyone who may have seen the car being driven along Clitheroe Road around the time of the incident to get in contact.”
